Nutritious Pie Crust


This nutty and nutritious crust makes a perfect base for many cooked and raw fillings.

3 cups whole wheat flour

2 ¼ cups nut meal (preferably almond, pecan, or walnut)

1 cup butter

¼ cup honey

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Mix all ingredients together with pastry cutter or by hand. When thoroughly mixed, divide dough into 3 parts (if using 9 or 10 inch pie pans). Press dough evenly into pans by hand. Cover and chill for at least 30 minutes. (The crusts can be frozen at this point for future baking.) Bake 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown. Allow to cool and fill. Baked shells can be frozen for future use.
