Oolong Tea

Content and Benefits:

Halfway between green tea and black tea in flavor and effect, oolong tea is a semi-fermented tea which is known for its rich taste and pleasant lasting aftertaste. The flavonoids in oolong tea is effective in controlling obesity. Specifically speaking, it activates the enzyme that is responsible for dissolving triglycerides. It has been confirmed that the continuous intake of oolong tea contributes to enhancing the function of fat metabolism and to controlling obesity.


Oolong comes from Taiwan, where the climate is perfect for growing. The varieties of oolong tea also offer a variety of benefits. Ti-Kuan-Yin, also known as The Goddess, rids the body of toxins and its illnesses. Black Dragon is full-bodied, dark, and earthy. High Mountain Oolong has a deep-green leaf that makes a fresh, revitalizing brew used for indigestion, slimming, and to lower cholesterol. Other varieties include Pu-erh and Oolong Shue Hsein.

Make It Right:

Oolong not only has the taste and effects smack in the middles of black tea and green tea but it is also brewed that way. Use 1 heaping teaspoon per 8 ounces of water. The water should be heated to a boil taken off the heat but quickly poured over the tea. Oolong tea should be steeped for 3-4 minutes. Water Temperature: 180-190 degrees.
